The Gun Works of Central New York (previously Gary's Gunsmithing) has been in business since 1992. Gary Donovan and his wife Debra started out in a small room in the basement of their home. Since that time the business has expanded to its own building to fulfill the needs of a growing customer base. There are 3 highly qualified gunsmiths on the premise.
Our Goal is to provide the highest quality service for our customers. Whether your gun is an old worn favorite or a fine English double, you can be assured that the work performed will be to your satisfaction.

Work Estimates are based on actual visual inspection of the firearm, we cannot give any estimates without first seeing the firearm or component to be worked on.
Full Line Gunsmithing Services: The Gun Works is an authorized official Remington Platinum Premier Warranty Station. We perform warranty work spanning the Remington 700 series trigger recall to one of the most famous shotguns afield, the Remington Model 870. We also offer gunsmithing services for all makes & models of firearms. We offer bluing, parkerizing, wood refinishing, repairs, restoration, machining, welding, brazing, barrel porting, muzzle breaks,Teflon, rust bluing and brown, custom rifle building, and much much more. We're always looking to innovate and expand our services to better serve our customer base.
Winchester Factory Restorations: We are proud to offer one-of-a -kind services unique to the Winchester collector. While other repair shops offer Winchester "style" barrel matting we offer the Original factory matting using the original Winchester machine with original factory tooling. All work is done with factory machines in our shop.
Mauser Factory Grade Restorations: We are able to provide services unique to the Mauser collector, regardless of country of origin of the firearm, rebuilding and restoring postwar reproduction sniper rifles and sporter rifles(fitting claw mounts to bases, soldering rings,utilizing the proper metric screws,etc.). Any restoration work is carried out to original exacting factory wartime standards, from the factory specified dimensions, overall finish, right down to last screw and pin.
Fine & Unique Firearms: We have a full line service for the discriminating customer that engages in recreational and shooting sports afield with exotic, one-of-a-kind shot guns from installing solid ribs to full restoration of world renowned doubles, over unders and side by sides such as Fox,LC Smith and Parker.
Tactical Firearms We stand ready to service our tactical customers from the Law Enforcement community and the military arena, fulfilling your specialized requirements as requested. We offer Special Purpose Rifle and Tactical Shotgun repairs, modifications and customizations, enabling you to meet your particular mission parameters. When it comes to tactical firearms support, we set the standard for excellence.
Retail Sales: The Gun Works offers a select line of retail sales, to include both new and used firearms, reloading equipment and supplies, cleaning supplies, slings, optics, ammunition, parts, and accessories. We also sell Sporting Licenses and permits. If we do not have it on hand, just ask one of the associates. Well order it for you hassle free, from one of our many vendors and distributors.
